Heritage Christian Volleyball Season Ends in Quarantine

Heritage Christian Academy’s volleyball team, which has been in quarantine due to COVID-19 since Oct. 14, has seen its season end because they won’t be cleared in time to play in the KCAA State Tournament this weekend.

HCA Athletic Director Candy Hayes said the volleyball team would not be out of quarantine in time to conduct practice and play in the postseason.  HCA’s was 10-3 under first-year coach Grace Waldron and ranked fourth in the KCAA Power Poll.

HCA has one senior, Elizabeth Pitts, who is a finalist for the KCAA Miss Volleyball Award to be announced this weekend at the conclusion of the state tournament in Danville.

It appears HCA’s streak of 16 straight region championships will remain intact, however.  The KCAA voted before the season to play a super-regional format that combined Regions 1 and 2 into one tournament.  Oak Ridge Christian is the only other school in Region 1 with HCA. Oak Ridge did not play in the super-regional and, like HCA, will not play in this weekend’s state tournament due to COVID-19 concerns.

If 2021 returns to some semblance of normality, HCA will look to defend its region title won in 2019.
