Todd County Central’s district football game with McLean County is off for a second time this season, however this time it will not be rescheduled.
Todd County Central Athletic Director Mike Smith said McLean County athletic officials notified him Wednesday afternoon the Cougars would not be allowed to host Todd Friday night due to McLean County schools attending classes virtually this week.
WFIE-TV reported Tuesday the school has had four positive student COVID-19 cases and 36 quarantined students since Friday. They will be continuing virtual classes into next week.
McLean County is 3-1 on the football season but has not played since Oct. 2. Todd and McLean were scheduled to play Oct. 16, but that game was moved to this week at McLean County’s request.
Smith said Todd County worked to schedule a replacement opponent but was unable to. The Rebels will have a bye week and return to the field Nov. 6 for its regular-season finale at Russellville.
Todd County is 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in the district. Under KHSAA COVID-19 guidelines for district games canceled due to the coronavirus, the KHSAA final regular-season RPI will be used to determine who gets credit for the win between Todd and McLean for playoff seeding purposes. This week’s RPI has McLean County at .588 and Todd County at .507. A Rebel win over Russellville would likely raise their RPI.
If the RPI holds, Todd County would be a No. 4 seed and play at Hancock County in the first round of the playoffs. The Rebels lost to the Hornets in the final minute 20-14 on Oct. 2. McLean County, if they are able to play, would be the No. 3 seed and travel to Owensboro Catholic.
