
Trigg County sophomore Austin Cavanaugh posted the best finish for a Trigg male since 1986 at Friday’s 2A state cross country meet, helping the Wildcats to an 8th-place team showing.
Cavanaugh crossed the line in 16:51 to finish 6th, Trigg’s best showing since Eric Ezell almost thirty-five years ago. He was thirty seconds off the winning time of 16:21.97 by Thomas Nelson’s Lane Hoyes. Hoyes edged out Western Hills’ Griffin Staude in 2nd-place by less than a second.
Timmy Cannon was the next across the line for Trigg, finishing 51st with a time of 18:21.58. River Oliver finished in 18:44.34, followed by Riley Thompson with an 18:45.
Marshall Jenkins finished in 19:04.47, Ryan Simpson crossed at 21:10.41, and 7th-grader Nathan Potts rounded out the Trigg runners with a 21:48.97.
The Wildcats finished with 267 points with a total time of 1:31:46 for an average of 18:21.28. The 1st Region was well represented, with Webster County running 3rd and Calloway County also scoring a top-10 finish.
