If Texas power forward Daimion Collins does commit to Kentucky Saturday night the way many anticipate he will, just what kind of player would the Wildcats be getting? His high school coach, Jarrod Boston of Atlanta (Texas) High School, says his star player’s defense has always been incredible and his offense has improved tremendously.

“When he is locked in and concentrating on defense, he can not only play lockdown D but can destroy you with blocking shots. I remember his freshman year he blocked shots but sophomore year he really came along,” Boston said.

“Around here you don’t see kids block shots like he can. It took five or six games before officials got used to he was actually blocking shots and not goal tending. There was one game he blocked 10 shots in one quarter. He is just different. He’s got better on offense and when it totally catches up to his defense, he’s going to really be something.”

Powers said Collins initially enjoyed the big-time recruiting attention a lot but during COVID-19 restrictions the calls, texts and Zoom conferences the last six weeks have got a bit overwhelming. Collins cut his college list from 10 to five in part so he would not have so many calls to take and now is ready to make his final choice.

“He said a while back he would wait until after the season was over to make his decision and I believed he was still thinking that way until this week,” Powers said. “He was kind of unsure. But he would kind of like to make it now and have it over.”
