In one final round against some of the best golfers in central and western Kentucky, Trinity Beth showed why she was named Miss Golf by the state’s coaches.
The Marshall County 7th grader brushed off cool and windy conditions to shoot a 5-under 66 in Sunday’s second round to win the first-ever Cullan Brown Invitational at Paxton Park by 15 shots.
After a 1-under 70 Saturday, Beth followed with four birdies and an eagle that saw her hole out the par-4 second hole from 128 yards out.
Beth’s Marshall County teammate Megan Hertter shot 9-over par for the two days to finish in second place. Region 3 champion Faith Martin of South Warren and KHSAA state champion Macey Brown of Apollo tied for third at 10-over.
Cullan’s sister Cathryn Brown followed her first-round 76 with a 79 Sunday to tie for seventh place.
The two-day event at Paducah’s Paxton Park, organized by the Bluegrass Golf Tour, raised over $10,000 for the Cullan Brown Memorial West Kentucky Development Fund for youth golfers. Brown was a state champion from Lyon County and All-SEC freshman at the University of Kentucky who died from a rare form of bone cancer earlier this year.
