The ongoing pandemic has led recreation officials to suspend some activities in Christian County. Officials with the Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation Department announced Thursday afternoon that due to a steady local uptick in COVID-19 cases and Christian County’s continued “red” status within Kentucky’s Incidence Rate map, they were halting the majority of its indoor activities, beginning Monday.
Open gym sessions, classes, events, rentals and gatherings at the Planters Bank-Jennie Stuart Health Sportsplex Hopkinsville and Thomas Street Recreation Center will cease for at least one week. With the guidance of the Christian County Health Department and local officials, Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation will evaluate these closures on a weekly basis.
The Sportsplex will still allow free walking from 8 a.m. to Noon each weekday, as well as socially-distanced batting cages for baseball, softball and golf. Call 270-985-1700 to make reservations for cages, which will be limited. Masks and face coverings will be required for all visitors at all times.
Outdoor facilities, such as the Hopkinsville Greenway Rail Trail, Hopkinsville Skatepark, Hopkinsville Dog Park and Tie Breaker Athletic Park Walking Trail, will remain open as usual, with CCHD guidelines and recommendations remaining in place.
