Why not try a virtual Kentucky Women’s Basketball Clinic for loyal fans who love that event

Sarah White, third from left, always attends the UI Women's Basketball Clinic and hopes one might be held virtually this year.

Every year about this time UK fan Sarah White of Nashville not only attends the Kentucky Women’s Basketball Clinic but normally writes about it for vaughstsviews.com. Not only does White always attend, but normally so do her daughters who also come in from out of state.

White was even there when cars got towed from the Memorial Coliseum parking lot — and yes, her car was one of those that got towed.

But no one I know enjoys the clinic more than White and her family.

“I have attended each Women’s Clinic that coach Cal has offered. It has been a weekend surrounded by my children who have come from Florida and Ohio to enjoy with me,” White said.

“I look forward to purchasing a basketball, meeting the new players, getting pictures made with coach Cal, Ellen (Calipari), other coaches and some of the players. It is a treat. I was anxious to meet the new coaches.”

White was also ready to attend the SEC Tournament in March — like she also always does with her family — when COVID first reared its ugly head.

“Boo, Covid. I dislike you immensely. From not getting to watch the SEC Tournament except for the first two games, to not having a women’s clinic, this is cruel. On top of that, I suspect we will not get our season tickets for basketball. I’m 73. I hope this gets fixed soon. I don’t have forever left,” White said.

“Maybe coach Cal will have a Zoom Women’s Clinic so we can meet the guys, pay if we need to for the opportunity, and meet the new coaches.

“Larry, why don’t you hint that this will be a great idea.”

Hint? No need. I think White made the perfect plea to Kentucky coach John Calipari for why having a Zoom Women’s Clinic would be so important to so many female Kentucky fans.

Here’s hoping Calipari and his Cats will maybe find a way to deliver a little early Christmas cheer to White and many others who are missing one of their annual blessings of being a UK fan.
