Not only has the Kentucky football team had to learn to cope with pandemic restrictions and protocols, but the Cats are also having to play a 10-game Southeastern Conference schedule. If that’s not enough, a team full of big expectations is 2-4 and has one of the worst offenses in the SEC.

That’s why Wednesday I asked Kentucky coach Mark Stoops how his team was emotionally and if he worried about his team having a complete letdown.

“I don’t anticipate any problems there,” Stoops said. “I know the work we have done for years developing leadership.

“I am disappointed with the results and I know the players are. We have got work to do but I don’t have any fear our guys will lay down in any shape or form.”

Defensive tackle Phil Hoskins says not to worry about the team attitude.

“I would say we are still very confident. We know the guys we have,” Hoskins, who had an acrobatic interception against Georgia, said. “It is about us. It does not matter about everybody else and what anybody is saying about us.

“We do not have the mentality we have to play those guys. They have to play us, so our confidence is definitely still through the roof.”

What about the offense? How is the mood on that side of the ball with the struggles the Cats have had?

“The mood is not bad,” Chris Rodriguez, UK’s leading rusher, said. “The mood in the locker room as a team, we are just focusing on getting better ourselves and keep getting after it.”
