Jackie Clark, who oversaw Trigg County’s transition to fast-pitch softball and was a standout football player for the Wildcats, died Saturday.
Clark was a 1966 TCHS graduate and earned All-WKC honors on the field after rushing for over 1,000 yards his senior season. He also was an assistant football coach for several seasons in the 1990s and 2000s.
Clark took over the Trigg County softball program in 1991 and led the Lady Wildcats to a 15-9 record, which was the most wins for the program.
Trigg won slow-pitch district titles in 1992 and 1994, eclipsing the 20-win mark in both seasons. The 1994 district title is still the last one won by the program.
The KHSAA announced the state would transition to fast-pitch in 1995 but still give schools to option of playing slow-pitch. Thinking that was going to be a viable option, Trigg readied for a slow-pitch season in 1995 only to see less than a dozen schools statewide choose to field a slow-pitch team.
Trigg struggled with the transition and went 2-19 in the first season of slow-pitch. Clark resigned the following season with 77 wins in five seasons.
Clark, who was elected to the Trigg County High School Football Hall of Fame, stayed active in Trigg County athletics and the Trigg County Athletic Hall of Fame.
Funeral services for Clark are pending.
