Kentucky secondary makes plays when it counts

Closing out his grading of the Kentucky football positional groups, former UK all-SEC running back Anthony White gave the secondary a C-plus in his rankings on our Sunday AM Sports Talk on WLAP. White, just as he has said all season, doesn’t think the overall secondary has been nearly aggressive enough.

“But they do make plays,” White said. “Sometimes they play too soft and are out of position. At times I don’t think they are really getting the (play) calls because sometimes people are trying to do two different things.”

However, White said the secondary has had a knack for getting an interception or making a key tackle at key times.

“They do what they are supposed to do the majority of the time but we do still play too soft for me 75 percent of the time,” White said. “If they played more aggressive, they could get off the field more on third down.

“So I would give the corners a C and the safeties a B. Our safeties are making plays most of the time and overall doing a really good job.”
