On the day that the state football playoff brackets were officially released, one Class 2A District 1 game has already gone by the wayside. In a social media post Friday afternoon, officials at Ballard Memorial High School announced they would not be going ahead with their first round playoff game against the Mayfield Cardinals.
The post notes that Ballard Memorial had already decided not to play if the playoff began on November 13, and that they would continue in that decision, even with the playoffs being postponed a week until November 20.
Mayfield beat the Bombers 68-8 back on October 30.
The decision means that the Mayfield Cardinals will now move on to the second round of the Class 2A playoffs, where they will await the winner of the game between Caldwell County and Murray, which will be played in Murray, November 20.
Mayfield will host the winner on November 27.
