If the Kentucky high school football playoffs get underway next Friday night as planned, the state’s largest school district will be a part of the action. Jefferson County Public Schools notified parents Friday morning that teams will be allowed to play in the opening round of the playoffs, and will be able to practice as normal in preparation.
In the letter sent to parents, the district said that since the playoffs were under the auspice of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association, schools would be allowed to play and practice for the playoff games as long as the KHSAA continues to move forward with the postseason.
However, in that same letter, the JCPS announced that teams preaparing for winter sports could only practice in small groups, with no game-like simulations allowed during practice times. With the situation to be re-evaluated next week, the start of basketball in Jefferson County could be on the line.
The basketball season across the state is set to open November 23rd. The KHSAA Board of Control has a meeting slated for November 18, but so far there has been no indication that a possible delay in the start of winter sports is on the agenda for that meeting.
