Caldwell County is ranked 11th in the Kentuckywrestling.com preseason rankings with eight wrestlers cracking the list for weight classes.
Riley Johnson received the highest preseason ranking at third in the 113-pound class. Johnson finished third at region last year, but both wrestlers who finished ahead of him last year have moved on. He was seventh at the state tournament, reaching the podium for the second straight year.
Collin Teutsch is ranked fourth in the preseason at 106. He won the region title last year and finished sixth at the state tournament as a freshman.
Dylan Walls is the third Caldwell wrestler ranked in the preseason top-five. He is fourth in the 126-pound class. Walls won the 126-pound class at region last year and finished eighth at the state tournament – the third straight year he medaled at state.
Coty Harris, John Paredes, and Colin Walls each have a top-10 preseason ranking. Harris is ranked ninth in the 120-pound class after finishing third in the region last year.
Paredes is ranked ninth at 160 after a fourth-place region finish in 2020. Colin Walls is ranked 10th at 152 after a third-place region finish last year. Walls also brought home an eighth-place finish at the state tournament.
Blane Hicks checks in at 15th at 132, and Ethan Newsome is ranked 22nd at 138.
As a team, Caldwell County is ranked 11th in the state in the preseason rankings and 14th in the dual rankings. The Tigers finished 21st at the 2020 state tournament.
The KHSAA sent down guidance for wrestling to its member schools on September 30.
No intra-squad scrimmaging may be conducted and no preseason scrimmages will be allowed.
As of now, the first official contest can be held on December 7 with no more than three matches in a given week.
The guidelines also state that wrestlers must wear a mask or face covering everywhere except for the mat when wrestling. Coaches must wear a mask at all times.
