Kentucky defensive lineman Josh Paschal called Alabama a “great team” capable of explosive plays.

“And they had a lot of them (explosive plays),” Paschal said after Alabama beat Kentucky 63-3 Saturday.

“Nobody likes losing and getting blown out,” Paschal said.

He seemed perplexed when I told him running back AJ Rose said the offense “went flat and died” in the second half when it managed just 27 total yards.

Paschal said team leaders had to lift each other up to make sure that didn’t happen.

“Today is not acceptable for us. We know that as players,” Paschal said. “As leaders we are going to put that on the young guys so they know this is not who we are and this will not happen again.”

Kentucky has to play No. 5 Florida next and likely will be shorthanded again after having 10 players, including five starters, miss the Alabama game for COVID-19 reasons. Coach Mark Stoops said after the game he didn’t know who would be back or when they would be able to play again.

“We have to get better,” Paschal said. “This isn’t a part of our culture and who we are. We have to learn from that.”
