With the start of the Kentucky High School basketball season delayed until January 4, officials with the All A Classic have decided to make some modifications to this year’s small school state tournament. Officials with the All A Classic have told YourSportsEdge.Com, that the tournament will be delayed a few days, and the structure of the event will likely be somewhat different.
As of this time, the tournament is now set for January 25 – January 30 at Eastern Kentucky University. Officials say the exact format and other specific details will be determined before the event. Those details are expected to be worked out at a December 12 board meeting.
As of this time, the plan is to play 6 games per day Monday through Thursday then 4 semifinals on Friday, with the finals to be played on Saturday. Officials do note that the plan is is contingent on being approved to bring all 32 teams to Richmond.
During the tournament, the arena would be cleared after each game.
All A officials add that they are hoping to avoid sectionals unless it becomes “100% necessary” for the event to take place.
The All A Classic Board recommended that regional tournaments be played as scheduled.
The Board decided that all teams shall be allowed to play in the girls’ and boys’ regional tournaments regardless of whether their county is “red.” Any school may withdraw with no penalty but no school shall prevent another school from participating because their county is “red.”
The Board noted that if Madison County is in the “red” on the Thursday night before the scheduled beginning of the statewide tournament then the tournament will not be played due to state regulations and EKU policy.
