Sydney Melton has always been one to share the glory on the softball field, deferring the praise to her teammates. On Tuesday, the Lyon County senior shared the glory of signing her college letter of intent with two other Lady Lyons and inked with Southeast Missouri State.
Melton batted .432 as a sophomore in 2019 with eight home runs and 33 RBIs. She had 18 extra-base hits and scored a team-high 46 runs. She struck out only four times in 128 plate appearances in helping the Lady Lyons advance to the region championship for the first time in school history. She is also one of the top defensive catchers in the region.
Melton also plays on the travel circuit and has been featured in events around the country since middle school.
SEMO was 46-18 last year in winning the OVC Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
