The high school basketball season is still on hold here in the Bluegrass State, but a former Caldwell County Tiger is nearing his season opener in the Hoosier State.
Fonso White joined The Sideline Report on WPKY Radio Thursday morning and said practice is underway at Bishop Luers in Fort Wayne, Indiana. However, White said the Knight haven’t started playing games yet as he waits on his football players, who are playing in the state championship game in their class on Friday.
White was named Coach of the Year in the Fort Wayne area by OutsidetheHuddle.com after leading his Bishop Luers basketball squad to the Summit Athletic Conference championship last season. It was Bishop Luers’ first conference championship since 2012.
Bishop Luers won just five games total over the previous two seasons, but the Knights went 15-7 last year in White’s second season on the job. Expectations may be even higher this year.
White is a 1993 Caldwell County grad and a former member of the Tiger basketball team. He says he still tries to keep up with the Tigers and the Lady Tigers.
White and his Bishop Luers squad are now scheduled to open the season on Dec. 8 at Leo High School just outside of Fort Wayne.
