Could getting tight end Jordan Dingle to Kentucky also now lead to his brother transferring to UK

Kentucky got a verbal commitment it really wanted recently from 6-3, 235-pound tight end Jordan Dingle of Bowling Green, a three-star prospect and one of the top players in Kentucky. Now a family connection might help the Wildcats get another quality player.

Dingle’s brother, Justice, put his name into the transfer portal Tuesday. He was one of the top signees in Georgia Tech’s 2018 signing class and a highly rated linebacker. Justice Dingle redshirted in 2018, moved to defensive end in 2019 and played in 11 games with six tackles. He led the Yellow Jackets with three fumble recoveries.

The 6-3, 280-pound Dingle picked Georgia Tech over Louisville, Purdue, Tennessee and Virginia.

His father, Justice Sr., said his son had not been happy for a while. Coach Paul Johnson and assistant coach Andy McCollum recruited him. Johnson retired after the 2018 season and McCollum was not retained on the new staff.

“With the new coaching staff the first year he got a lot of playing time and a lot of snaps in the rotation. They had him at defensive end as a hybrid type of player,” Dingle’s father said. “Lately they have not been putting him in the rotation and playing guys they brought in. We just decided him doing something different is in his best interest.”

Not long after he put his name into the transfer portal, several college coaches immediately reached out to Dingle’s father and all mentioned putting him back at linebacker mainly — the position he played at Bowling Green when he was a tackling machine in high school.

“They kind of pushed him into the line and that’s not the position he has played,” Dingle’s father said.

Justice Dingle Sr. said his son “likes the idea” of possibly playing with his younger brother again at Kentucky.

“He’s just going to take a little time and figure out the best fit for him,” Dingle’s father said.
