Former Caldwell County standout Dee Cain and the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers were scheduled to play a rare Tuesday morning game at Charlotte this week. However, that game has been canceled due to positive COVID tests in the 49ers program.

This is Charlotte’s fourth straight game to be canceled. However, it’s the first time this season Western Kentucky has had a game called off for COVID reasons.

The Hilltoppers made it through 10 games unscathed, going 4-6 overall and 3-3 in Conference USA.

WKU is looking for a replacement game and still has hopes of a bowl bid this season.

Conference USA earlier postponed its championship game from Dec. 5 to Dec. 18 to allow schools two additional weeks to reschedule games.

Western Kentucky’s last game was Nov. 21 — a 38-21 win over Florida International on Senior Day in Bowling Green.

Cain had two solo tackles in that game and has 12 tackles and two quarterback hurries for the season. He is a linebacker and also sees time on special teams.

Cain is playing this year as a redshirt senior, but will still have another season of eligibility next year with the Hilltoppers.

Cain was a freshman on Caldwell County’s state runner-up squad in 2012.
