The LPGA Tour is back in action this week and former Caldwell County standout Emma Talley is in the field for the Volunteers of America Classic near Dallas, Texas.

Just three events remain on the 2020 LPGA schedule, beginning with this week’s event at The Colony’s Old American Golf Course. The 72-hole tournament begins Thursday and concludes on Sunday.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, the event will be closed to the public.

This week’s stop, the first in Texas for the LPGA this season, will be a tune-up for the Women’s U.S. Open scheduled for Dec. 10-13 at Champions Golf Club’s Cypress Creek Course in Houston. As of right now, Talley is not in the field for the Women’s U.S. Open this year.

The season-ending CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Fla., is the following week.

It is worth noting that the LPGA froze everyone’s tour status this season. That means that Talley will get to continue to play on the LPGA Tour in 2021.

Talley played in the Volunteers of America Classic last season but failed to make the cut after shooting rounds of 73 and 75 to finish the first two rounds at 6-over-par.

She will tee off in the final group in Thursday’s first round. Talley will start on the No. 1 tee at 12:37 p.m. along with playing partners Jenny Coleman and Leona Maguire.

When Talley won the NCAA individual championship while at the University of Alabama in 2015, Maguire was one of two players to finish just one shot back. Maguire played for Duke University.

Talley has not made the weekend in her last three LPGA events this season. She had made the cut in six of the previous seven events before this current string.
