
Former Caldwell County basketball standout Derrin Boyd got his first collegiate start Thursday night for the Georgetown Tigers.
Unfortunately for Boyd and the Tigers, top-ranked Georgetown was upset at No. 15 University of the Cumberlands 86-81.
Boyd, a redshirt freshman, recorded his first double-digit scoring performance on the college level, finishing with 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor. He made one of his two 3-pointer attempts while also grabbing three rebounds and recording one assist.
Boyd is averaging nine points a game for Georgetown, which is now 2-1. Cumberlands improved to 6-0 with the win.
Boyd finished his high school career fourth on Caldwell’s career scoring list with 1,911 points. He averaged 24.0 points a game as a senior. Boyd is also fifth on Caldwell’s all-time rebounding list with 628 boards.
The Georgetown Tigers are next scheduled to host Bethel University on Saturday afternoon.
