
Hopkinsville’s opponent in the Class 4A state football semifinals will be Boyle County with the Tigers set to travel to Danville for Friday’s contest. Gametime will be 7:30 pm eastern time.
The matchup was confirmed Saturday when Allen County-Scottsville lost to Franklin County 48-14. The game was originally scheduled for Friday but postponed 24 hours due to COVID-19 concerns.
Franklin County will now travel to Johnson Central in the other 4A semifinal.
Hopkinsville is in the semifinals for the first time since 2004 after defeating John Hardin 14-10 Friday. The Tigers will take a 7-2 record into the game.
Boyle County has advanced to the state semifinals despite playing only one playoff game. The Rebels saw a first-round game with winless Anderson County wiped out when Anderson opted out. The Rebels beat Lexington Catholic 49-41 in the second round. A positive test in the Rowan County camp took them out of the playoffs and allowed Boyle to move into the semifinals.
The Rebels are 8-0 on the field and coming off a 2019 season that saw them fall in the 4A state championship game to Johnson Central 21-20. Boyle County has won 13 straight postseason games at home dating back to a 31-30 loss to Mercer County in the second round of the 2013 Class 4A playoffs.
