Haven Habhab grew up a Kansas State fan. As a military kid, she lived at both Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth which helped foster her love for the Wildcats. Now, the Fort Campbell senior will be attending the school she grew up admiring and will be part of its athletics program.
Habhab has signed to be part of Kansas State’s rowing program.
Habab is in her first year at Fort Campbell. It’s her third high school and came after her family’s 11th move. She’s one of the best athletes in the school although she hasn’t had much of a chance to show it off.
Habhab was a starter on Fort Campbell’s volleyball team that began the season late due to COVID-19 concerns and was shut down before the postseason. She likely won’t get a chance to play basketball this season for the Lady Falcons unless the DoDEA reverses its decision on allowing basketball to occur.
She plans to play tennis in the spring before the family makes a likely move back to Texas.
Habhab took advantage of her downtime during the quarantine to explore athletic options and learned about the rowing program at Kansas State.
The 2020 spring rowing season was canceled due to COVID-19. The school said the 2020-21 season is still being evaluated and is currently under consideration by university and conference officials.
Kansas State’s rowing program dates back to the 1960s. In 2010, the four teams of the Big 12 Conference — Kansas State, Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma — joined Alabama, and Tennessee of the Southeastern Conference, and Central Florida, Southern Methodist and Tulsa of Conference USA to create a nine-team league under the Conference USA Conference.
The move to the Conference USA enabled the conference to have its champion receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships beginning in the 2013 season.
In 2015, the schools realigned to create the Big 12 Conference.
