The weather outside was cold, and Heritage Christian Academy’s shooting inside was colder as the Warriors dropped their second straight game Thursday in a 65-38 loss to Christian Community, Tennessee.
HCA missed 12 of its first 13 shots from the field in falling behind 10-2 early. The Warriors trailed 15-5 after one quarter but found their way for a bit in the second quarter as they twice cut the deficit to eight points and got as close as 25-20.
The Warriors trailed 31-24 despite connecting on just 8-of-29 shots in the half.
The wheels came off in the third quarter as HCA started the half shooting 2-of-13 from the field and turned the ball over six times. The turnovers were uncharacteristic for the Warriors, who stymied their own fast break opportunities with mistakes in transitions. HCA finished with 18 turnovers for the game compared to six for the Colts.
Christian Community’s 17-2 run to start the third quarter put the contest away.
HCA’s shooting didn’t get much better in the second half as they finished 14-of-55 for the game [25.4%]. Christian Community shot 45-percent for the game, using the give-and-go well in the third quarter.
Matt Willis led the Warriors with eight points, and Carlos Robles added seven points. Zane Yates came off the HCA bench to give the Warriors a boost with six points and three rebounds. Triston Folz had four points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Asher Nix led Christian Community of White House, Tennessee with 20 points and five rebounds.
Heritage Christian Academy closes out the 2020 portion of its schedule when they host Clarksville Christian Friday.
