Malik Williams hit a shot in the paint with 4.2 seconds left to lift Clarksville Christian to a 48-47 win over Heritage Christian Academy Friday at Warrior Gym.
HCA led for most of the game until the Centurians [2-5] took their first lead of the game with 6:03 left. The Warriors nursed a 3-point lead with 1:30 left. In what would be the main storyline of the game, Clarksville Christian hit a pair of free throws with 1:04 left to pull to within 47-46.
After both teams missed short shots, Heritage missed the front end of a bonus free throw with 20 seconds left that set up Williams’ game-winner. Heritage got off a 3-point attempt ahead of the horn that didn’t go.
Clarksville Christian knocked down 7-of-12 free throws in the contest, while HCA was just 4-of-13 including 2-of-5 in the fourth quarter.
Heritage Christian outrebounded the visiting Centurians 44-34 but shot 38-percent from the field. Clarksville Christian hit just 35-percent from the field but had three more 3-point goals than the Warriors.
Carlos Robles led HCA with 17 points and three steals. Weston Powell added 10 points and 13 rebounds, and Triston Folz joined them in double figures with 10 points. Matt Wills had nine points and five assists.
Clarksville Christian got 17 points and nine rebounds from Michael Lawton.
Heritage Christian, who was playing without three players including a starter, fell to 2-3. They return to action on Jan. 5 when they host South Haven.
