Like many spring athletes in the Class of 2021, Tenley Gilbert saw her recruiting game plan altered because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many baseball and softball programs were hesitant to offer scholarships in the spring to current seniors because, at that time, there was a lot of uncertainty regarding the 2021 spring season.
The Christian County High School senior called an audible and decided to attend Frontier Community College. Gilbert signed with the school Wednesday afternoon in a small ceremony in the WKDZ radio room.
Gilbert hit .330 for the Lady Colonel softball team as a sophomore. She smacked four home runs and drove in 25 runs in 2019. She was also 13-for-13 in stolen base attempts.
Gilbert has been a regular on the travel softball circuit since her early days, playing for the Lady Sluggers in recent years.
Frontier Community College, located in Fairfield, Illinois, competes in Division I of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
