John Calipari has not lost faith in the process

Many Kentucky fans might have lost faith in this year’s basketball team — but not coach John Calipari. Obviously, the coach could not say he was ready to give up even if he was after a 1-5 start that includes a five-game losing streak and having to ask one player — freshman Cam’Ron Fletcher — to “step away” from the team.

“Faith is what drives me. I haven’t lost any faith in the process. It’s worked. I haven’t lost any faith in these players. You got guys getting better,” said Calipari Monday night on his weekly radio show.

“We gotta figure out how to win some of these games and I think if we win, we’ll go on a run and they’ll start believing.”

Maybe. Maybe not.

But no doubt a win, especially Saturday at Louisville, would help a team that is playing with no confidence or poise.

“Losing stinks now. I hate it. I hate it for our fans, our players, our staff. I hate it,” Calipari said. “I take 24 hours to grieve and then I start thinking, ‘Okay, how do we get this right? And truth be told, we’re playing better.”

What? How is UK playing better?

“We’re not that far off but sometimes losing breeds losing. We gotta start winning games so they know hard work is worth it,” Calipari said.
