Livingston Central is looking to bounce back from a 5-19 season a year ago, and the Lady Cardinals have a couple of scorers looking to do just that.
Senior Lauren Wring topped 1,000 career points last year after scoring a team-high 17 points a game. She also added eight rebounds a game and can play all five positions on the floor.
Freshman Victoria Joiner averaged six points in nine games last year and will be counted on to provide a second scoring option.
Coach Eric Wring has several players who saw considerable time last year that will see their roles increase in 2021.
Maggie Downey and Emersyn Ramage got better last year despite playing as middle schoolers. Downey, now a freshman, averaged three points at the varsity level, and Ramage, an eighth-grader, saw her playing time increase down the stretch.
The Lady Cardinals will have to replace some size inside with the graduation of Kerah Davidson, who scored eight points and was among the region’s leading rebounders at 10.1 per game.
Sophomore Ashlynn Oropeza and senior Erica Quertermous will have to step forward and give the Lady Cardinals some production on the front line.
Wring has four middle schoolers that will see time and look to increase their roles as the season progresses.
The lack of gym time over the summer and in the fall due to COVID-19 means their development at the varsity level won’t be as early as Wring would have liked.
“Being unable to have the team practice and just be around each other to learn tendencies has been the biggest obstacle this offseason,” Wring said. “I still expect our fans to see a more uptempo type of play on both ends of the floor this season.”
Livingston Central will open the 2021 season on January 4 with a home game against St. Mary.
