
Caldwell County got off to a solid start in its season opener on Monday. But the Tigers couldn’t keep it going.
Webster County got 32 points from Destin Allen and went on beat Caldwell 66-50 in Dixon.
The Tigers got seven points from Jabrion Spikes in the first quarter and built a 19-16 lead after 8 minutes.
But Webster held Caldwell to just five points in the second period while building a 30-24 lead at halftime.
Union led 49-38 through three quarters.
Caldwell was within single digits in the fourth quarter before Webster pushed the final margin out to 16 points.
Hunter McNaughton added 14 points for Webster, which was 2nd Region runner-up to Madisonville-North Hopkins last season.
Spikes topped the Caldwell scoresheet with 18 points. Tripp Branch had 11.
Caldwell will play at home for the first time on Friday when it hosts 7th District foe Madisonville.
