Not one, not two, but three double-doubles powered Lyon County’s girls to a big comeback win over Union County Thursday night.
Down 18-3 early, the Lady Lyons regrouped to grab the lead by halftime and went on to defeat the Bravettes 64-55 at Jason White Gymnasium in Eddyville.
Gracen Wynn hit three 3-pointers and finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds for Lyon. Calista Collins had 18 points and 13 boards while Ella Defew added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Rose Smith added eight points for the Lady Lyons and Hadlie Butler had 10 rebounds to go with four points.
Lyon (1-1) held a 50-26 advantage on the boards in the contest.
But it was Union (1-1) that came out hot early.
Amelia Mackey hit four of her six 3-pointers as part of the early 18-3 run. She finished the night with 20 points to lead the Bravettes.
Lyon clawed its way back to within 20-10 after one quarter, then outscored Union 23-10 in the second period to get to halftime up 33-30.
Wynn hit a pair of treys late in the half to push the Lady Lyons in front.
Lyon led 45-41 through three quarters before Union drew even 45-45 early in the final frame.
However, back-to-back buckets inside from Collins put Lyon back in front to stay.
Lyon hit 10 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter to help hold off Union.
Wynn’s 3-pointer with 3:38 to play made it a six-point game at 56-50.
Lyon’s biggest lead of the night came with the final nine-point margin.
Madison Morris added 14 points for Union. Raelle Beaven had seven points and eight rebounds.
The Lady Lyons will next go to Livingston Central on Monday for a first-round game in the 2nd Region All A Classic.
