The UHA Blazers got tangled up in a Webb Friday night. Not in a spider’s web, but the play of Owensboro Catholic’s Ji Webb. A long third quarter scoring drought and a huge second half from Ji Webb was too much for the UHA Blazers to overcome Friday night against Owensboro Catholic, as the Aces rallied from a double digit first half deficit to pick up the 80-67 win over the Blazers at the Owensboro Sportscenter.

The two teams went back and forth during the first eight minutes of the game. As the quarter came to an end, the Blazers held a two point lead over the Aces at 15-13. D.J. Quarles and William Bryan combined to score 11 of the Blazers 15 points.

With Bryan and Amani McGee leading the way, UHA appeared to be in good shape in the second quarter. The Blazers used a 16-6 run to take a 31-19 lead and looked to be rolling. However, the Aces were not going to go away quite that easy, as they outscored UHA 11-3 in the final moments of the half to cut the Blazer lead to 34-30 at the break.

That momentum carried over into the second half for Catholic, as the Aces used the play of Ji Webb and a big run to go up 43-34. The lead would grow to 12 points at 47-35, but then it was the Blazers’ turn to fight their way back into the game. By the end of the quarter, UHA had closed to within 54-50. Webb scored 10 points for the Aces in the quarter.

In the final quarter, with Webb staying hot, the Aces would push the lead back out to double digits in the opening moments at 62-52. UHA would try to battle back, only to see the Aces fend them off and then stretch the lead out late to the final 13 point margin.

William Bryan led the way for the Blazers with 21 points, one of four Blazers to hit double figures. Amani McGee finished the night with 16 points. Kevin Crump and D.J. Quarles rounded out the double figures scoring with 14 and 12 points respectively.

Catholic’s Ji Webb led all scorers with 27 points, 18 of them coming in the second half. Brian Griffith added 19 for the Aces.

UHA falls to 0-2 on the season, and will be back in action Saturday afternoon as they host Marshall County.

Owensboro Catholic moves to 2-0 on the season. The Aces travel to Madisonville Saturday afternoon to take on the Maroons.
