Heritage Christian Academy couldn’t hold on to a first half double-digit lead and dropped a 63-60 Saturday matinee to the Owensboro Knights at Warrior Gym. After trailing by six in the final minute, the Warriors had a chance to tie in the final seconds but could not get a three point shot fo fall.
HCA built a 23-11 first quarter lead as Weston Powell knocked down a trio of 3-pointers. Powell finished with four 3-pointers in the game and 17 points.
The Knights are a team of home-school students in the Owensboro area. HCA beat the Knights 69-53 in its season opener on Nov. 13. The difference Saturday was Koen Lacklore, who didn’t play in the first meeting but scored a game-high 23 points. 20 of his points came in the second half as the Knights rallied from an eight-point deficit.
Owensboro’s ability to get to the free throw line proved to be the difference as they hit 21-of-38 shots at the charity stripe, including 11-of-17 in the fourth quarter. HCA was 12-of-26 at free throw line and was just 6-of-14 in the fourth quarter.
In addition to Powell, Triston Folz scored 17 points, and Carlos Robles scored 9.
Heritage Christian looks to jump back into the win column Tuesday with a home contest against Clarksville Christian.
