To borrow from Forest Gump, transfers, like life, are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you are going to get.

Through the first week of the high school basketball season, Trigg County Coach Chad Burgett feels like someone has delivered a basket of truffles at his doorstep.

De’Von Ladd hit four 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to spark a Trigg County comeback that led the Wildcats to a 59-57 win over Hancock County Saturday night at Wildcat Gym.  The win was Trigg’s first in three games this season.

Ladd, a senior guard, transferred to Trigg County from North Carolina over the Christmas break, reuniting with a large family based in the area. He’s only been with the team for two weeks but has made the most of his time as a Wildcat.

Ladd was part of an overall team effort that saw Trigg erase a six-point deficit to start the fourth quarter.  He knocked down a trio of 3-pointers in the first two minutes of the frame to put Trigg ahead 48-45.  Ladd scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the final eight minutes.

Ladd’s marksmanship was part of an 11-of-27 Trigg effort behind the arc against the Hancock County zone.

Kendric Adams was strong inside, scoring 14 points and pulling down seven rebounds.

Trigg County never led in the first half, trailing by as many as eight points. Hancock hit 7-of-10 shots in the second quarter and made 50-percent in the half.  Trigg stayed within striking distance, down 28-26 at the half.

Jhaden Vaughn added eight points and six assists for the Wildcats, who only had six turnovers in the contest.

Hancock County was led by Kalen Keown’s 16 points and seven rebounds. Evan Ferry added 14 points.

The Hornets had an open look at a go-ahead 3-pointer in the closing seconds, but the shot didn’t fall.

The win was Trigg County’s first in four career meetings with Hancock County.

The Wildcats are scheduled to travel to another Third Region team Friday, Cloverport.
