
The third quarter was the difference as Hopkins County Central’s girls fell at South Warren Monday night.
The Lady Storm led 10-8 after one quarter and was tied 21-21 at halftime. But the Lady Spartans outscored Hopkins Central 18-8 in the third period to gain the upper hand and take a 39-29 lead to the final quarter.
South Warren went on to post a 61-49 victory.
South Warren (2-1) shot 51.6 percent from the floor in the contest and made 5 of 13 3-pointers.
The Lady Spartans outscored Hopkins Central by 15 points at the free throw line. South Warren was 24 of 35 at the stripe while the Lady Storm went 9 of 12.
Hopkins Central (1-3) got 13 points from Emile Jones and 10 from Briana Fritz.
South Warren was led by Gracie Hodges’ game-high 20 points.
Hopkins Central is scheduled to be on the road again Tuesday night, visiting McLean County.
