Junior Skyy Clark made his verbal commitment to Kentucky before the Cats started what has turned out to be a disappointing 4-8 season so far but the Nashville point guard and his family still believe in coach John Calipari’s program.

“I think the team will get it together,” said Kenny Clark, Skyy’s father. “They had a little winning streak and then a game not go the way we wanted (against Alabama). But they still got time to make up for that.”

Kenny Clark made that comment before UK played and lost at Auburn.

The commit’s father said the family and UK ‘keep in touch” regularly.

“Skay has asked with Cal and (assistant coach Joel) Justus. I usually stay in contact with Justus,” Kenny Clark said.

Kenny Clark said obviously Dontaie Allen has been “a big-time help” and also likes the way freshman point guard Devin Askew is developing.

“(Davion) Mintz can shoot. We stay tuned in to what Kentucky is doing,” Kenny Clark said. “I like Lance Ware. Him and Skyy got the same number (55), so we may have to talk about that eventually with him.”

Clark had talked some about reclassifying where he could be at UK next year but nothing firm has been decided.

“We will see what next year brings and just keep rooting for the team this year and hope they do the best they can and string together some wins,” Kenny Clark said. “I know they are trying hard and guys have gotten better.”

Skyy Clark and his brother, ZZ, have been on a COVID-19 break after his sister got COVID. The family moved from California to Nashville last spring and Skyy had 51 points in his debut for Ensworth School in mid-November. He is averaging about 26 points, six rebounds and four assists per game and his brother, a freshman, about 12 points per game.

“Skyy’s playmaking ability has taken a step forward,” Kenny Clark said. “Everybody knows he can score the ball. He is shooting better. Some games he has hit seven of eight 3’s, or maybe five 3’s. But he’s always been a shooter. His playmaking ability where he gets to the paint and draws the defense in and then kicks the ball out to a shooter is really a lot better.”

Skyy Clark has not done much other than practice and stay home while in Nashville.

“We just hoop,” Kenny Clark laughed and said. “I have had COVID. My daughter has had it. We have even contemplated just shutting it down this year (to avoid COVID). We may still do that just to be safe and train privately. We don’t know but we want to do our part to keep everybody safe.”
