After putting the brakes on a three-game losing skid last time out, the Todd County Central girls’ basketball welcomed a stiff test from south of state lines on Tuesday night, with Jo Byrnes rolling into Elkton boasting a 9-1 record.  The Lady Red Devils would prove too much for the young Lady Rebels, building an early lead and cruising to a 62-31 victory.

The Lady Rebels started well and led 7-4 after Abby Williams scored on a drive, but Jo Byrns answered with a 16-2 run to lead 20-9 after the first quarter.  Reese Payne and Grayson Bryant combined for 11 points to outscore the Lady Rebels on their own.

The onslaught continued in the second, with the Lady Rebels held to only 5 points, and the Lady Red Devils stretched the advantage to 20 behind 7 more points from Bryant.

Alexis Taylor got going after the break for Todd Central with 5 third-quarter points, but Payne added 6 more and Emilie Head also tossed in 6 to give the Lady Red Devils a 50-22 advantage.

Abby Williams scored 4 of her 8 points in the final frame for Todd Central, but the Lady Rebels couldn’t put a dent in the margin and were doubled-up 62-31.

The 31 points is the Lady Rebels’ lowest output of the season with a 13th-District matchup at Logan County coming up on Friday.  The Lady Cougars have had Todd Central’s number over the last two seasons, taking the last six meetings.
