During Thursday’s KHSAA Board of Control meeting, Commissioner Julian Tackett said nearly one in every four high school basketball games this season have been canceled or postponed due to COVID-19 and outlined the policy for athletes who test positive for the virus to return to play.

Tackett said the guidance the KHSAA uses comes from the Kentucky Medical Association.  It says a player who tests positive for COVID-19 can return to play 22 days after a positive test or the first day symptoms were visible.

Tackett also told the board that masks are required to be worn by everyone in the gym except the players on the court and the referees.

Tackett also told the board he has not been made aware of any athlete-to-athlete transmission of COVID-19 during a game and said there is no evidence the virus can be transmitted from different players coming into contact with a ball.
