Archery Presenting New Challenges for NASP and KHSAA

For at least 2021, the practice of lining dozens of kids on a line and having them shoot arrows at targets during KHSAA and NASP tournaments is no more.

KHSAA Commissioner Julian Tackett told the board of control Thursday that archery has presented them with several challenges when it comes to masking and social distancing.  He said one concern is the use of masks and the arrows leaving the bow near their face.

COVID guidance from NASP urges people to stand six feet apart when on the line and to not share bows and arrows.  Because two people usually shoot at one target and compare scores for accuracy purposes, this has caused some issues.

Joe Angolia with the KHSAA said it’s likely their state tournament will be done virtually.

The NASP website is showing only five of their tournaments being completed since November. None of them are KHSAA sanctioned tourneys and none were west of Bowling Green.

A decision on the KHSAA archery postseason format is expected to be made in February.
