Lady Wildcats Capture First Win at Caldwell in 31 Years

Olivia Noffsinger scored 21 points as Trigg County’s girls ended 31 years of setbacks to Caldwell County at the Community Activities Building gym in Princeton.

The Lady Wildcats led by as much as 14 points in the third quarter before holding off a late Caldwell charge and winning 52-47 Thursday night.

Trigg’s last win at the CAB had been a 75-61 decision on Jan. 23, 1990.

The Lady Wildcats have just three wins over the Lady Tigers at the CAB, which opened in the 1987-88 season. Trigg also won 71-63 on Dec. 9, 1989.

The Lady Wildcats are 5-42 all-time against Caldwell in Princeton, going back to Butler Gym.

Thursday’s matchup was back-and-forth in the first half before Trigg got to halftime with a 19-16 advantage.

But the Lady Wildcats (4-3) got hot from long range in the third period.

Noffsinger buried three 3-pointers in that stanza Adri Phillips and Kinizah Grubbs also connected from behind the arc.

The Phillips 3 gave Trigg its biggest lead of the night at 38-24.

The margin was double figures for most of the fourth quarter before Caldwell tried to make a late move.

The Lady Tigers got as close as 51-47 following a 3-pointer by Brylee Butts, but the Caldwell comeback bid ran out of time.

Phillips and Marleigh Reynolds each added 10 points for Trigg, which won its fourth straight game this season.

Jacey Jaggers led Caldwell with 17 points. Parris Gray had 12.

Caldwell still leads the all-time series with Trigg 81-23.

The Lady Wildcats will be in action again on Saturday when they host University Heights Academy.

The Lady Tigers will travel to Hopkins County Central on Tuesday for a 7th District matchup.
