Tae Thompson turned his senior night into a career night to help Trigg County outrun Caldwell County 90-75 Thursday in Cadiz.

The Wildcat senior, who had scored 27 points in Trigg’s first four games, exploded for 35 points and was one of three Wildcats to reach double figures in the win.

Thompson was continually out front on the Wildcat fast break, scoring 21 points in the second half as the Wildcats stretched a six-point halftime lead to as many as 18 points in the third quarter.

Trigg’s ability to get out on the break saw them outscore Caldwell County 46-16 in the paint.

The Wildcats began the game on a 9-2 run only to see Caldwell respond to take an 11-9 lead. It was the Tigers’ last lead of the game.

Trigg ended the third quarter with a 7-1 spurt for a 24-16 lead.

Consecutive 3-pointers by Tripp Branch and Xavier Bumphus got Caldwell to within 24-22.

Thompson and De’Von Ladd combined to score 15 of Trigg’s 18 points in the second quarter as Caldwell trimmed a 12-point deficit to 42-36 by halftime.

Freshman Jhaden Vaughn scored 10 of his 21 points in the third quarter. The Wildcats hit 11-of-15 shots from the field in outscoring Caldwell 25-15 in the quarter.

Jabrion Spikes scored 11 of his team-high 18 points in the second half for Caldwell, one of five starters to score in double figures.  Bumphus added 15 for the Tigers.

Ladd scored 23 points and dished out seven assists, while Vaughn added 12 rebounds to his 21 points.

Trigg County hit 35-of-54 shots in the game [64-percent] and was 15-of-18 at the free throw line.

Caldwell shot 48 percent from the field and had six more field goal attempts than Trigg.  However, the Tigers had 15 turnovers that led to 21 Trigg points.

The win marked the first time Trigg County has topped 90 points since a 92-17 win over Clarksburg, Tenn, in 2017-18.

Caldwell County slipped to 2-6 with their fourth straight loss.  The Tigers will host Webster County next Thursday.

Trigg County improves to 2-3 as they embark on a stretch of five games in six days.  The Wildcats will try and find Cloverport Friday for a game with the Aces.  The two were scheduled to play last Friday, but iffy weather caused the game to be postponed.
