For the second time in five days, Trigg County used a strong second half to overwhelm University Heights Academy. Saturday, the Lady Wildcats won 66-23 at Wildcat Gym.
It was UHA who got off to the fast start by scoring the game’s first seven points. Trigg answered with six straight to end the first quarter despite missing 18 of 21 shots in the frame.
Both teams continued to struggle to find the bucket in the second quarter. Trigg took the lead for good at 13-12 on a DeDe Barbee bucket with 3:45 left in the half.
The Lady Blazers hung tough for the remainder of the half, limiting Trigg to just two field goals after Barbee’s bucket. The Lady Wildcats held on for a 23-17 lead at intermission.
Trigg County blew the game open in the third quarter with a 32-2 run. The Lady Wildcats hit 11 of 19 shots in the quarter and scored 18 points off 12 UHA turnovers. Trigg ended the quarter with 20 straight points for a 55-19 lead.
After hitting just 8 of 42 shots in the first half, Trigg hit 16 of 34 after halftime to finish at 31-percent. The Lady Wildcats hit six 3-pointers with Kara Hyde knocking down four in the second half to finish with 12 points.
Adri Phillips also had 12 points and four rebounds for the Lady Wildcats, and Marleigh Reynolds had 10 points and 10 boards.
UHA’s first half success was predicated on turning Trigg County over. The Lady Blazers scored four points off 10 Trigg miscues. However, the Lady Wildcats only had two turnovers in the second half.
Brittyn Northington led the Lady Blazers with eight points. Eighth-grader Alecia Davis scored six points and pulled down eight rebounds before fouling out in the third quarter.

UHA only dressed seven players and had two foul out. They simply ran out of gas in the second half.
The Lady Blazers return to the floor Tuesday at home against Union County.

The Lady Wildcats carry a five-game winning streak into Tuesday’s district showdown at Crittenden County. The Lady Rockets are already 2-0 in district play. A win over Trigg Tuesday sews up the top seed for the Lady Rockets.
