Trigg County won for the third-straight game and spoiled what was the season opener for Dawson Springs.
Jhaden Vaughn had 23 points, Kenny Adams added 21 and Devon Ladd had 17 as the Wildcats pulled ahead in the first half and went on to win 96-73 Saturday night at Panther.
Because of COVID-19 issues, the Panthers had been delayed in getting their season underway.
The Dawson Springs opener was highlighted by a 40-point effort by senior guard Landon Pace, which was just five points off the school record held by Clark Mills.
Dawson Springs led 8-5 early and was still within 13-12 midway through the first quarter.
However, Trigg (4-3) used a 10-0 run to gain the upper hand and led 27-17 after one quarter.
The Wildcats continued to pull away in the second period, building a 23-point edge at halftime, 57-34.
Trigg led by as much as 29 points in the third quarter before taking a 79-52 lead to the final stanza.
The lead grew to 31 points before the Wildcats settled for the 23-point triumph.
The 96 points is the most for Trigg since a 99-89 win over Todd County Central in 2013.
The Wildcats have topped 70 points in their last three outings, the first time that has happened since January 2016.
Meanwhile, Dawson’s Pace is closing in on 1,000 career points. With his 40 points Saturday, he is just six points away from hitting that milestone.
Dilyn Skinner add 13 points for the Panthers in the setback.
