
After scoring 96 points in a win Saturday, Trigg County could have used some of them Monday. The Wildcats fell behind 12-0 out of the gate and never challenged in a 61-30 loss at Todd County Central.
The Wildcats, playing its fourth game in five days, missed 15 of their first 16 shots from the field in the first quarter. Todd County Central capitalized on the slow start and hit eight of 12 shots, consistently beating the Wildcats to the glass and hoop in jumping out to a 16-2 lead.
The Rebels played a zone defense, daring the Wildcats to shoot from the outside. Trigg missed 20 of their 25 shots from 3-point range.
Trigg County got as close as 16-4, but the Rebels led wire to wire in picking up their second straight win.
Todd Central shot 52-percent from the field in the first half in holding a 29-12 halftime lead. Trigg was 4-of-24 in the first half and shot 19-percent for the game.
Todd didn’t let up in the second half, shooting 57-percent from the field and extending its lead to as many as 33 points.
Anthony Johnson led the Rebels with 18 points and eight rebounds. Amari Andrews added 13 points and eight boards. Preston Moore handed out seven assists and grabbed six rebounds.
De’Von Ladd hit four 3-pointers in the third quarter as the Wildcats tried to keep it close. He finished with a team-high 12 points.
For Trigg County, the 30 points scored was the fewest since a 47-29 loss to Livingston Central in 2016. It’s also the fewest points scored against Todd County in the 69-game series that dates back to 1955. Todd leads the series 43-26.
Todd County Central returns to action Saturday at Cloverport, who they beat 59-42 over the weekend. The Rebels’ Friday game with Franklin-Simpson was postponed to next month due to the Wildcats entering COVID protocol.
Trigg County will host Crittenden County Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.
