Morgan State guard De’Torrion Ware was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Tuesday. It is the first weekly honor this season for the former Christian County Colonel and the third time a Bear has been named as the league’s player of the week.

Ware helped lead MSU to a 2-0 record last week with wins over St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Thursday and Delaware State on Sunday, averaging 29.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest while shooting 64 percent (21-of-33) from the field and 56 percent (9-of-16) from 3-point range.

Against the Hornets, the sharpshooting junior scored a career-high 36 points off the bench, knocking down 11-of-20 shots from the field, 6-of-11 from 3-point territory, and was a perfect 8-of-8 from the stripe to lead the Bears.

It was the second time this season he has scored 30 or more points. He scored 30 points at Norfolk State on Jan. 10. His 36-point scoring outburst is the most points scored by a player in the league so far this season.

Earlier in the week, Ware accounted for 23 points on 10-for-13 shooting from the field to lead MSU to an impressive 99-41 win over the Seahawks.

Ware is currently averaging 15.7 points (No. 5 in MEAC), 4.8 rebounds (No. 13), and is shooting 40.3 percent (No. 10) from beyond the arc.
