It is not surprising with the starts and stops of a pandemic impacted season that we see some ups and downs in the rankings early in the season. The question is will that volatility be there all season long, or will things settle in at some point. For the moment, the “stability” comes at the top of this week’s YSE 2nd Region Boys’ Basketball Super 7, where Lyon County stands above the rest again this week, for now.
– Lyon County (9-0) – The Lyons picked up solid wins over Graves County at home and then on the road at Calloway County. They topped off the week by routing district foe Livingston Central.
– Henderson County (5-2) – The northern Colonels are now on a three-game winning streak after knocking off Evansville Central, Meade County, and Ohio County. A Saturday night affair at Lyon County should prove interesting.
– Madisonville-North Hopkins (3-1) – The Maroons entered COVID protocol and will be out of action until February 5th.
– University Heights (1-5) – The Blazers are set to come out of COVID protocol Saturday, and will be tested right out of the gate, as they host a very good Owensboro Catholic team.
– Webster County (8-2) – The Trojans appear to be getting things rolling now. A solid win at Hopkinsville Tuesday night gives them four wins in a row and six in their last seven.
– Hopkinsville (2-2) – After coming out of district-wide COVID protocols, the Tigers are still trying to find their footing. A solid win at Muhlenberg County, but then a tough loss at home to Webster County. Some big ones looming on the horizon.
– Christian County (0-1) – The southern Colonels finally got to start their season Tuesday night, but struggled offensively in a loss to Owensboro Catholic. Some of that could be being a week or two behind everyone else in playing time.
