Crittenden County led just one time in its Tuesday district game with Trigg County. It was the only lead change that mattered. The Lady Rockets overcame a 10-point fourth quarter deficit to beat Trigg County 41-40 at Rocket Arena.
The Crittenden win assures the Lady Rockets the No. 1 seed in the district tournament to be played in mid-March at Trigg County.
Nahla Woodward hit consecutive 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. The second gave the Lady Rockets a 41-40 lead with 2:52 left.
Trigg County had two turnovers and two missed shots on their final four possessions. The two shots were good looks in the final 12 seconds that didn’t fall.
Woodward came into the game with two 3-pointers. She knocked down three in the fourth quarter to spur a Crittenden run after trailing 31-21 early in the frame.
Marleigh Reynolds scored with 4:51 left to put the Lady Wildcats up 40-35. They wouldn’t score again as Woodward’s 3-pointers decided the game.
Eight of Woodward’s 28 career 3-pointers have come against Trigg County. She finished with a game-high 15 points.
It looked early as if the Lady Wildcats would continue their recent mastery of the Lady Rockets. Trigg jumped out to a 10-2 lead. While Crittenden got to within one point in the second quarter, the Lady Wildcats pushed their lead to 19-14 at halftime.
Trigg held two different 10-point leads in the third quarter, but Crittenden played with renewed intensity in the fourth quarter. The Lady Rockets hit 8 of 11 shots in the quarter in scoring 20 points, one fewer than through the first three quarters combined.
Trigg County hit 50-percent of its shots in the second half, but the season-long issue of missed free throws reared its ugly head again. Trigg was 8 of 16 at the line.
Both teams had 17 turnovers, and Crittenden won the battle of the glass 24-21.
Reynolds led Trigg County with 13 points. Olivia Noffsinger added 11 points and seven rebounds. Adri Phillips had 10 points and six assists.
Taylor Guess scored nine of her 11 points in the second half. She has 993 career points and should become the 10th member of the Crittenden County 1,000 point club in their next game.
Trigg County will play at Lyon County Friday. A Lady Wildcat win means they will see the Lady Lyons in the semifinals of the district tournament as the No. 2 seed.
