Destin Allen scored from in close with 4 seconds left in overtime to lift Webster County to a 61-60 victory at Caldwell County Thursday night.

The Tigers (2-7) had taken a 47-41 lead to the fourth quarter before Webster (9-2) battled back to tie things at 53-53 and force the extra period.

Allen missed a 3-pointer from the corner at the end of regulation that would have won it for the Trojans. But he made good late in regulation, scoring with Webster trailing 60-59 and the clock winding down.

Allen was also fouled on the play, but couldn’t convert the three-point trip.

That left Caldwell with 3.5 seconds to try to pull the game out.

Following a timeout, the Tigers got the ball to Jabrion Spikes, who made it across the time line and just to the right of the lane before getting off a shot just ahead of the horn. But Spikes’ attempt fell off the front of the rim to give Webster the one-point win.

Hunter McNaughton led Webster with 17 points while Allen had 16. The Trojans also got 13 points from Bradin Nelson.

Tripp Branch had 20 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Caldwell. Tate VanHooser added 17 and Spikes finished with 16.

Branch hit four 3-points during the third quarter as Caldwell turned a 29-26 halftime deficit into its six-point lead entering the final frame.

But after putting up 21 points in the third quarter, the Tigers managed just six in the fourth period as Webster forced overtime in the back-and-forth contest.

Webster has won five straight. Caldwell has lost five straight.

The Trojans had beaten the Tigers 66-50 in the regular-season opener on Jan. 4 in Dixon.
