Playing in only their third game of the season, the Christian County Colonels fell victim to a stellar deep-shooting performance from visiting McCracken County on Saturday night, with the Mustangs knocking down ten 3-pointers on the way to a 55-42 victory.
Noah Dumas scored 7 first-quarter points, and the Mustangs led 13-4 midway through the opening frame. However, the Colonels closed on a 6-2 run, capped by a pull-up jumper by Jordan Miles and a lay-in by JaSean Riley, to pull to within a point at 15-14.
Ian Hart hit 3-pointers on three consecutive possessions for the Mustangs to push the lead to 27-19, and McCracken led by double digits a short time later after Jack McCune scored in the paint with 2:20 left in the half. With the Colonels trailing by 12, Riley beat the buzzer with a 3-pointer for a 33-24 halftime score.
Christian County opened the second half on an 8-1 run and was within 2 at 34-32 after a Miles jumper with 4:43 left in the frame. But McCracken answered with the knockout punch, closing the quarter on a 13-0 run to lead 47-32 going to the fourth.
A Riley jumper trimmed the margin to 13 early on, but that would be as close as the Colonels would get. Dumas answered with back-to-back 3s to push it to 19, and the Mustangs cruised in from there.
The Colonels will be back on the court on Tuesday when they make the trip to face Bowling Green, before opening 8th-District play on Friday with a visit from University Heights.
