After losing two straight district games this week, Trigg County was glad to get a win Saturday.

After losing three games this week to COVID-19 protocol, Madisonville was glad to just be playing.

The Lady Wildcats held off a pesky Lady Maroon squad of six players to get a 47-44 win on Don Parson Court. The win was Trigg’s first over Madisonville since 1989 and only the second in 24 career meetings.

The Lady Maroons only dressed six players for the contest as most of the varsity team, including their top five scorers, were in COVID-19 quarantine.  Instead of shutting the program down for two weeks, Madisonville Coach Jeff Duvall said he was going to play the two home games on his schedule during the 14-day period with players who had no contact with a positive case and weren’t in quarantine.

Trigg County led wire-to-wire but could never put a lead on the scoreboard larger than eight points.  Their inability to hit close shots saw them miss 26 shots in the paint and five layups.  For the game, Trigg County shot 25-percent from the field [17 of 66].

The Lady Wildcats were able to disrupt the Madisonville offense by forcing 26 points from the inexperienced squad that led to 22 turnovers.

DeDe Barbee led Trigg County with 16 points, seven rebounds, and five steals.  Marleigh Reynolds added 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Madisonville got 12 points from 8th grader Kaytee Parish and an 11-point, 9-rebound day from freshman Addy Prow.  Four of the six players who reached the scoring column for Madisonville scored their first points of the season.

Trigg County [6-5] will host Livingston Central Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.  A Lady Wildcat win means a No. 3 seed in the district tournament and a semifinal game with Lyon County.

Madisonville [1-4] will host Lyon County Thursday.
