Former Caldwell County standout Jaylen Boyd has been named one of two running backs on the Lindsey Wilson College 2010-19 All-Decade Football Team.
With the 11th season of Blue Raider football now less than two weeks away, LWC has been releasing its all-decade lists on social media.
Boyd rushed for 1,119 yards in the 2019 season — becoming just the third Blue Raider to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. He also amassed 390 receiving yards and 330 kickoff return yards this season with 16 total touchdowns.
Boyd was named to the Associated Press NAIA All-America Team and the American Football Coaches Association All-America Team following the season. The Princeton native also earned Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division First Team honors.
The Blue Raiders went 12-1 last season, reaching the 2019 NAIA national championship game before falling to Marian (Ind.) 34-24.
Boyd ran for 88 yards and a touchdown in the title tilt.
Boyd was selected to the College Football America 2020 Yearbook NAIA Starting Lineup heading into the upcoming season.
A 2015 Caldwell County grad, Boyd is second on the Tigers’ all-time rushing list with 5,451 yards. He owns the Tiger single-season rushing record with 2,041 yards in 2012.
Boyd was a freshman on Caldwell’s 2011 team which set a school record for points in an 80-62 win at Calloway County. He was a senior when the Tigers outscored Christian County 78-57 in Hopkinsville in 2014.
Boyd, a senior at LWC, and the Blue Raiders will kick off the “2020” season on Friday, Feb. 12, with a home date against Pikeville.
All games have been moved to Friday this spring instead of the normal Saturday games. The move was made to help alleviate scheduling pressures with all sports being contested in the spring.
Lindsey Wilson will play seven football games in February, March and April against Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division foes.
NAIA officials announced last summer that the NAIA Football Championship Series would be moved to spring 2021.
The FCS championship game is slated for Monday, May 10, at Eddie G. Robinson Stadium in Grambling, Louisiana. The NAIA FCS begins on April 17 with the first round of the 16-team playoff.
